I am a solo 26 yr old female traveller from New Zealand and have stayed at many hostels around the world. This hostel was OK...
Positives:
-lockers in rooms
-fans in rooms
-good wifi which was available in all areas including rooms
-mattress was somewhat comfortable
Negatives:
-no locks on rooms, in fact the door didn't even close properly to my room, nor did the window. I'm sure it would be very cold in the winter. The rooms lead to a walkway that is literally outside.
-barely any foreign travellers/zero English speakers (I know I'm the one in a country where I should speak Spanish... but I'm not fluent at all, and honestly didn't managed to speak to anyone at this hostel - and believe me, I tried) it is mostly locals and people from Venezuela who seem to stay there.
- I was in a mixed 8 bed dorm room. It was me, and 7 men. All probably between the age of 35-45 (kind of uncomfortable).
-the bunks were rickety and didn't have ladders to the top bunk. I was on the top bunk and every time I hoisted myself on, it felt like the bed was going to fall over.
- the bathrooms were pretty gross. Small bins piled high with soiled toilet paper. Smelled pretty awful.
- the breakfast leaves verrrrry little to the imagination. Stale bread rolls with jam or dulce de leche, and coffee.
Honestly, it was not the worst hostel I've ever stayed at, but in no way the best either. It wasn't a 'fun' hostel like I was hoping for. If you're a young, English speaking tourist; maybe try somewhere else.
We staid here for a week (2 days in a private room with shared bathroom and 5 in dorms). The hostal just got the new owners, who are renovating the place step by step. It's an old building, so some refreshment will definitely make the place nicer.
The rooms are basic, but good and bathrooms and kitchen are clean. Many of the common places in the hostel (like terraces or dining part) are open space (there is no roof), so a lot of people smoke inside.
The location is brilliant. There are many bars, restaurants, shops and markets around. The Sunday market, which is amazing, is right outside of the building. It's also around 10 min walk to the metro and bus station. People working in a hostel were lovely and very helpful. From thursday to saturday they have a bar in a hostel (for the people who stay there) with cheap beer and cocktails. Great place for the travelers on budget.
We arrived on the afternoon after check-in hours. The guy at the reception was friendly but the check -in took like 35 min. Don't know why. Then we were shown to our dorm. It smelled so bad and were things everywhere. The mattresses were old and the sheets as well with stains all over. The whole impression of the hostel was that it was dirty. Common areas and toilets too. If you are on a really low budget and have to save money - ok! If not please stay somewhere else!
Cheap hostel in great location. The staff is great and the fellow travellers I met there were also a friendly crod from all over the world.
Alejandro who is working in the hostel is a great guy, always friendly and helpful.
Also Luciano is a great guy.
